TV infomercials have us imagining a world in which everyone lived in happiness, where lack and want were alien, and wealth was a fundamental right. We all know that it’s only a commercial because other than the product they advertise, the rest of it seems far too good to be true. Indeed by many accounts, a perfect world with wealth and bliss only exists in the heaven we are yet to see.
By grand design, not everyone will be rich or great; not everyone will have the luxury of a life of their dreams. While the workings of who make it big and who those who go broke remain a mystery best left for the celestial to unravel, we do much good for ourselves when we acknowledge that we have a role to play, however little, in what becomes of our fortunes, and the fortunes of those around us. Needless to say, we must hold on firmly to all that is good and profitable – hard work, honesty and perseverance to name a few; and while we are at it, we must of course commit our lot to the One who gives it all. But just as important, is the need for us to ensure that no one gets left behind.
Resolve to make it big in this life with as many as are around you. The foolish, perhaps in ignorance or greed, assume erroneously that their stars shine brighter when surrounded by darkness, forgetting that in dealing with humans, the destruction of a lone star is an inevitable inclination. Strive to place your star in the galaxy where everyone else shines. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much fewer the burdens you bear will become.
